As Coach Riojas stated, it is a year of chang, but we're building for the future as all of our students are already working hard before the school year even starts. Taft ISD Bond Update--August 7, 2026
The walls continue to be built taller in the auditorium space with more work also continuing to enclosing the building framework. Welders continue to secure the steel beams at the front entrance before new materials are added to that area.
The ground framing has been completed at the tennis courts with foundation work to be started soon. The decorative brick exterior has been added to the baseball/softball concession stand with interior installations continuing.

Thanks to everyone who attended our Annual Backpack Giveaway and Health Fair this evening! For the second year in a row, Taft ISD teachers and staff were given funds to shop for specific items that would benefit their individual classroom or school spaces! We would again like to thank our THS Cheerleaders and Greyhound Band drumline for celebrating these employees as they went on their shopping spree. Special thanks to the staff at the Walmart in Portland for accommodating our needs for another year to make the start of school brighter for our employees! The grand finale of our district convocation was the awarding of Teacher Incentive Allotment funds to teachers who received designation as well as their campus support staff who helped their students achieve the standards for growth measures. Teachers can earn either Recognized, Exemplary or Masters level designations which generates funding for the designated teachers, their campus and the district. Today, teachers and staff members at each campus were recognized and presented with checks with the appropriate allotments based on 24-25 student growth scores. Congratulations to all of our staff who were recognized and for their dedication to our Greyhounds, Whippets and Pups! #TPND #AssembleForExcellence
Our district staff returned to a friendly sight at the Taft ISD Back to School Convocation! All employees were treated to a breakfast catered by Rancheros and vendors were also on hand to share goodies for the staff to use during the school year. New teachers were welcomed with a $100 bill to go towards their classrooms for the year as well as 8 meal tickets in the cafeteria when school starts. Door prizes were also drawn for all employees at the event. Special thanks goes out to the Taft ISD Foundation who sponsored the breakfast for staff this morning and the $100 for each new teacher to use in their classrooms! A huge thanks also goes out to our THS Cheerleaders and Taft Greyhound Band for joining us to pump up the spirit at our convocation! #TPND #AssembleForExcellence

Enclosing the framework on the new high school campus continues with work on rooftops and walls. The taller masonry walls of the auditorium are also progressing and sectioning off the space.
The ground at the site for the tennis courts are prepared for the foundation and poles are going up this morning for fencing. Work continues on the interior of the concession stand as that project progresses. #TPND

Taft ISD Board Meeting--July 27, 2026
Before the regular scheduled board meeting this evening, Taft ISD School Board members and Dr. Garza signed a beam that will be used in the construction of the new high school. SpawGlass provided a steel beam that will be used in the construction of the facility so that their signatures will forever be a part of the new building.
Our Taft High School cheerleaders were also recognized for their leadership and dance awards that they received at their cheer camp at the University of Texas at Austin. Our cheerleaders were recognized among over 300 other athletes from all over the state for their skills, effort and spirit. Great job, ladies! #TPND

As the summer begins to wind down and we get closer to the 1st day on August 12th, a reminder that cell phones cannot be used by students on campus during the instructional day. We realize that students have had more access to their devices this summer, but the current policies on each campus will remain in place for the 2026-2027 school year! Thanks for your cooperation!
Taft ISD kicked off its annual Leadership Retreat on Wednesday at the Ricardo L. Trevino Junior High School Media Center, bringing together campus administrators, department supervisors and other instructional leaders from across the district.
Day 1 of the retreat, themed "Greyhounds Assemble," focused on goals and strategic planning for the new school year through district policies and procedures. On Day 2, Campus Instructional Leadership Teams were invited to receive an accountability from Region 2 ESC staff and work through a deep dive of district assessment data.
The Leadership Retreat reflects Taft ISD's ongoing commitment to developing strong leadership to serve students & staff and enhance the educational experience for every student across the district. #TPND

Walls and roof materials continue to go up as construction continues to move east towards the auditorium. More spaces/areas are being defined through this construction. The brick wall of the auditorium continues to build higher as it sets the boundaries for the performing arts center. Roofwork continues on the gym and locker room area.
The concession stand and restrooms continues to progress at the baseball/softball fields. Groundwork is almost complete at the site for the new tennis courts with construction to begin soon. #TPND

Mark your calendars, Drug testing will be Monday, July 27th and Tuesday July 28th in the Taft High School Georgia Krumnow Center foyer. Students must have a signed consent form prior to testing. The consent form will be available each morning prior to testing.

Walls are beginning to go up on classroom spaces at the new high school and roof work continues on the gym area. Walls and metal roofing are almost completed at the baseball/softball concession stand which means interior work will begin soon. Soil injections continue at the site for the tennis courts to prep the grounds for those foundations. #TPND
