Message from the Superintendent

Dr. Irene M. Garza

I am humbled and honored to join the Taft ISD Greyhound family.

I was raised in a small coastal community, one that focused on the importance of family, tradition, and preparing the next generation to achieve their dreams…so, in a sense, it already feels like home.

During my visits to the district, I have had the opportunity to meet with various staff members. This week, I am elated to participate in a meet and greet at each respective campus and at the district level, so that I can start getting to know each of you.  Our interactions this week, will be the first of many, as together we embark on a journey to continue making a difference in the lives of kids and families in our community.

Through my interactions with the Board of Trustees and the staff members I have met thus far, it has been evident that Taft ISD prides itself, first and foremost, on making decision that are in the best interest of the students we serve. In addition, it is also evident that there is tremendous trust in our teachers and staff and the commitment to high expectations, accountability, and the building of relationships.

The pride and tradition that represents Taft ISD has been clearly displayed on every campus: Woodroe Petty Elementary, Ricardo L. Treviño Junior High, and Taft High School.

I am committed to building relationships and working alongside each of you: teachers and administrators, paraprofessionals, and staff as we continue to raise the bar and continue the focus on providing a quality education with high academic standards and expectations for all students to be college and career ready while we continue to provide a safe, learning environment along with being good stewards of taxpayer money.

We will continue the charge of the TAFT Motto: Together Achieving For Tomorrow.

Irene Garza, Ph.D.
