Together Achieving For Tomorrow
Mr. Ricardo Trevino
The 21 day waiting period has ended and I am now officially the new Superintendent of Taft ISD, as a result of last night’s Board Meeting. I am a product of Taft ISD. Born and raised in Taft, I attended Taft schools until I graduated in 1989. I have 7 siblings, including a twin brother, and was a typical economically disadvantaged Taft student. Upon graduation, I attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology. I returned to Taft, where I worked as a paraprofessional, before becoming Alternatively Certified in Special Education. I taught three years in Robstown ISD in a Behavior Unit at Seale Junior High School. Once again, I returned to Taft as a Special Education Teacher at East Elementary where I taught for 4 years as I completed my Masters Degree in Educational Administration. I was then named the Assistant Principal at Woodroe Petty Elementary. After two years, I became the Principal at Taft Junior High School, where I served for eight years. My next assignment was as Principal of Woodroe Petty Elementary, where we took an unacceptable campus of four years to acceptable. For the next five years, I have served at Administration Office in a variety of roles. Now I have the privilege to be your Superintendent.
I am passionate about Taft ISD, as I can see myself in every one of our students. I am passionate about education as some of my best role models were paraprofessionals, teachers, coaches, and administrators. And if this Taft kid can become Superintendent, then the sky is the limit for our current Taft kids. My current priority is to provide our students an Excellent Education. It is only through providing good solid instruction in the classroom that we can reduce the number of struggling students, take students to new heights, and send off our students into the real world with a solid foundation.
Good Luck as we begin 2020 and thank you for your commitment and dedication to Taft Kids.
