Taft ISD Names THS Head Volleyball Coach
Angie Velazquez brings years of experience as a player, coach and referee
June 18, 2025 – Taft ISD announces the hire of a new Head Volleyball Coach for the 2025-2026 school year. Angie Velazquez has been selected to lead the Lady Greyhound volleyball program next season. Coach Velazquez has coaching experience in public school, private school and club/recreational leagues.
Coach Velazquez holds a BS in Kinesiology-Exercise Science from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. While in college and after graduation, she served as a volleyball referee for HS & MS games for the Texas Association of Sports Officials. She also served as an assistant and head volleyball coach for Annapolis Christian Academy where her varsity volleyball team consistently competed at the TCAL regional & state tournaments, earning a TCAL 1A division state championship in 2020.
Looking for another challenge in her career, she took on the role of an assistant varsity volleyball and assistant varsity basketball coach at Calallen High School where the varsity volleyball team consistently competed in the regional semi-finals. She also has over eight years of coaching experience at the club volleyball level with Corpus Christi Storm Performance Volleyball Club and has coached players from 8 to 18 years of age at a variety of skill levels.
