Larry Thormaehlen was elected to the Taft ISD School Board in 2011. He is currently serving a second term.  As a custodian of the Taxpayers money, his goal is to spend wisely but not hinder the education of our students. 

Larry has been a resident of Taft since 1971.  He and his wife Marcy are 1982 graduates of Taft High School.  He and Marcy have 3 sons Marcus (Amanda), Lance, Jacob and 2 grandchildren, Landen and Camryn.  Lance and Jacob are also graduates of Taft High School.  Lance attended college at TSTC in Harlingen and Jacob graduated from The University of Texas.

Larry worked in the farming industry for 12 years, worked for The Department of Transportation, he then worked 11 years as the Director of Maintenance and Transportation for Taft ISD.  He spent 4 years as a Project Manager/Estimator for a commercial roofing company.  He is currently an area safety manager for Bottom Line Services.

Larry dedicated numerous years as a coach and umpire to the Taft Little League.  He has coached athletes in the Discus and Shotput during his years at Taft ISD.

Larry enjoys golfing, NASCAR, helping athletes learn to throw shotput and discus, and spending time with family.
